Standard Testing Approach
Let’s assume that you desire to understand the performance of a new shear wall. Our facility can take you through product development in a common sense yet sophisticated manner assessing in situ performance as follows:
| Step 1 – |
Your shear wall is tested vertically to traditional industry standards
monotonically (ASTM E 564) or cyclically (ASTM E 2126). |
| Step 2 – |
Your shear wall is then placed in a real 16-foot wide x 30-foot long structure that includes 4 walls and a roof. (See figures 1 and 2.) |
| Step 3 – |
Your shear wall is tested monotonically and/or cyclically or both, parallel with and perpendicular to the roof trusses. |
| Step 4 – |
Your shear wall’s real life performance is compared to the ASTM performance. Calibration is performed and design values are created that have relevance to real-world applications. |
